Design & build
Websites designed to bring in work
Every site we build is designed from scratch around one question: what does this business need a visitor to do, and what is currently stopping them doing it?
Designed, not assembled
Most small business websites are a purchased theme with the demo content swapped out. You can usually tell within about two seconds, and so can your customers. The layout was designed for a business that is not yours, so the things you most need to say end up wherever the template happened to leave room.
We start from your business instead. What you sell, who buys it, what they are worried about, and what makes someone pick up the phone. Then we design pages that put those things where they will actually be read.
You see a real design of your homepage before a single line of code is written, and we change it until you are happy. Nobody should be approving a website from a description.
Built by hand, which is why it is fast
We write the code ourselves rather than stacking page-builder plugins on top of a theme. That sounds like a detail and it is not: it is the single biggest reason our sites load in under a second while the average small business site takes four or five.
Speed is worth caring about for two reasons. Visitors leave slow pages — a majority abandon a page that takes more than three seconds, and on a phone in a patchy signal area that threshold arrives quickly. And Google measures loading performance directly through Core Web Vitals, so a slow site is fighting an unnecessary handicap in the results.
Mobile first, because that is where your customers are
For most local businesses the majority of visitors arrive on a phone, often standing outside, often in a hurry. So we design the phone layout first and the desktop version second, rather than shrinking a desktop design and hoping.
In practice that means your phone number is always reachable in one tap, forms are short enough to complete on a bus, and nothing important is hidden behind a menu.
Words that do some work
Design gets someone to stay. Words get them to call. On the Business plan and above we write the copy for your key pages — you talk, we write, you correct us.
Most business owners write about themselves when they should be writing about the customer’s problem. It is a hard habit to break from the inside, which is exactly why it helps to have someone else do it.
Findable, by design
Search visibility is not a service we sell separately and it is not something bolted on at the end. It is a consequence of building the site correctly: a page for each service, a page for each area you serve, clean structure, proper headings, schema markup, fast loading, and a Google Business Profile that matches the site exactly.
Nobody honest can promise you a ranking position. What we can promise is that the site will not be the reason you are invisible.
Accessible, and legally sensible
Proper colour contrast, real form labels, keyboard navigation, text that scales. It is not much extra work when it is done from the start, it makes the site better for everyone, and it keeps you on the right side of the Equality Act.
Every site includes
The things that should never be extras
Responsive on everything
Checked on real phones and tablets, not just a browser window dragged narrow.
An enquiry form that works
Straight to your inbox, with spam filtering that does not make legitimate customers prove they are human.
Google Business Profile
Set up or corrected, with the right category and details matching your site character for character.
Schema markup
The structured data that tells Google what your business is, where it is and what it offers.
Analytics, if you want it
Set up properly so the numbers mean something. We will also happily leave it off — and then you need no cookie banner.
Legal pages
Privacy policy, terms and cookie information, written for your business rather than pasted from a generator.
The process
What actually happens, week by week
-
Week one — discovery
We meet or call. We ask what you sell, who buys it, who you compete with and what you want more of. We look at your current site and your competitors’.
-
Week one — design
You get a real homepage design. Not a wireframe, not a mood board — the actual thing. We revise it until it is right.
-
Week two — build
The rest of the pages get built out. If we are writing the copy, that happens now and comes to you for approval.
-
Week three — check and launch
Testing on real devices, speed and accessibility checks, then domain, hosting, SSL and Google setup. You approve, we go live.
-
Afterwards
We watch it for the first fortnight, fix anything that surfaces, and keep it current for as long as you are with us.
What it costs
Pay-monthly plans run from £45 a month for a five-page site up to £120 a month for an online shop — design, build, hosting, support and monthly changes all included, with nothing to pay upfront.
Prefer to own it? One-off builds start at £1495.
Questions about the build
Do you use WordPress?
Not by default. Most small business sites do not need a database and a plugin stack to show fifteen pages of information, and every plugin is another thing to update and another way to get hacked.
We build fast static sites instead. If you genuinely need WordPress — usually for a busy blog with several authors — we will build it in WordPress and say so.
Can I edit the site myself?
You can, and most people find they do not want to. Changes are included in your plan, so emailing us is usually faster than logging in and fighting an editor.
If you want to update a blog or news section yourself, we will set that up on the Business plan and above and show you how.
How many revisions do I get?
There is no number. We work on the design until you are happy with it, because a site you are not happy with is no good to either of us.
In practice it takes two or three rounds. If we ever got to round eight it would mean we had misunderstood the brief, and that would be our problem to fix.
What do you need from me?
An hour or two of conversation, your logo if you have one, photographs if you have them, and a list of your services with prices if you publish them.
If you have none of that, we can still start. Copywriting is included on the Business plan and we can source images.
Can you rebuild my existing site?
Yes, and it is a good chunk of what we do. We keep what is working — your content, your rankings, your existing URLs — and rebuild the rest.
Redirects from old addresses to new ones are set up properly, so you do not lose the search visibility you have already earned.
Will my site look like your other clients’ sites?
No. We share methods across projects, not layouts. Every design starts from the business in front of us.
